  • Start searching in your industry and find examples of the questions people ask, these can be great clues for snippets.

How do I optimize my content for Voice Search Marketing?

You will need to understand the featured snippet, also referred to as position zero.

This is a box that Google is putting above all other results, and that box usually has a lot of answers to questions people are asking. For the majority of the time, this is the first search phrase that comes up for a voice-activated search. Here are some things to consider:

1. Frequently asked questions

Provide short and concise answers. A featured snippet usually shows 30 words or less. Remember lots of people who buy may have the same questions. While concise answers are key to reaching position zero, Google gives value to longer, in-depth content, about 1900 words. It is important to make sure to answer questions first and provide in-depth support in the rest of your content. Also, remember to add frequently asked question pages.

2. List of steps or structured data.

Structured data or schema markup is the metadata related to your content. This is what tells search engines: this is an article, this is an organization, this is a book, etc.

3. Great mobile experience.

Many of the voice searches are done on mobile devices.

4. Local Searches.

Make sure to set up Google My Business so that you can show up for voice search. Make sure you claim your business. Input the correct name, phone number, address, hours, and don’t forget about those reviews. You want to show up in “near me” searches. Make sure to add the right categories and detailed information like landmarks near your business.

5. Video Search.

Google shows Youtube videos, so you may consider having your FAQs in video format as well.

Remember to keep these tips in mind when creating new content. Also, consider going back to look at your existing content, and find opportunities for optimizing it for voice search.
