Blog: Keep Your Site Optimized in 2021 and Beyond

Rigo Guadron / June 29, 2021

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to a series of techniques for helping your site rank higher in search results. It’s an essential aspect of everyday work for most developers and content creators.

There are various ways you can improve SEO on your website. General suggestions include ensuring your website’s loading times are kept to a minimum and performing keyword research to tailor your posts to match people’s search queries.

The truth is that what ranks well depends on the search engines’ algorithms, which are continually changing.

This year, Google began to measure Core Web Vitals. These are a series of signals that focus on user experience.

Because the nature of SEO is often changing and evolving, you can’t keep relying on the same search engine optimization techniques. It’s essential to stay up-to-date with all the changes in the SEO world.

This post will cover five things you can do to keep your site optimized in 2021 and beyond.

1. Prepare Your Site for Voice Search

target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Voice search. Maybe you use Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Echo, or Google’s Assistant, to name three examples. You are probably very aware of Voice Search. If you want your target audience to find you, regardless of the device they use, you need to optimize your brand for a world where voice is the new norm. The main difference between typical SEO strategies and voice search optimization involves using more “natural phrasing.”

2. Optimize for Local SEO

Local SEO is essential for smaller businesses to operate in their communities. Optimizing for SEO means more website traffic, leads, and conversions since the strategy are more relevant to your base of local customers. You need a Google My Business account associated with your business, make sure to provide accurate and updated information, encourage customers to review, and publish posts related to your business using Google My Business Dashboard.

 3. Long-tail Keywords

You’ll also want to consider optimizing your content for long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords are keywords or keyphrases that are more specific – and usually longer – than more commonly used keywords. Long-tail keywords get less search traffic but will usually have a higher conversion value, as they are more specific. “Buy breathable running socks” (4 words) is an example of a long-tail keyword, whereas “buy socks” is a short tail keyword. The ultimate goal is to use keywords people are likely searching for.

4. Personalized results

Google’s service is also personalized by offering searchers contextual results based on previous searches or even the user’s location. If you try searching for “Where is the nearest gas station?”, you’ll be shown options that are close by.

This may seem like a complex technique to leverage to your own advantage, but it’s far from impossible. You can increase your odds of appearing in answer boxes by simply providing clear and organized information on your site. Using lists and distinct headings to summarize each page’s contents will also help Google parse and index the information, making it easier to get your site featured in the much-coveted “position 0.”

 5. Use Schema to Markup Your HTML

Schema markup is code that you place on your website to help the search engines return more informative results for users. If you’ve ever used rich snippets, you’ll understand exactly what schema markup is all about. Schema can help web browsers and search engines gain a deeper understanding of your page’s content. Adding this markup can improve how your website displays (and ultimately ranks) in Search Engine Results Pages (SERP).
